Audrey’s Oubliette

This is a brief overview of the demo game I ran of my survival horror rules at Southern Front last weekend. It does not cover all the details and action, but you should get the idea of what went down.

All communications ceased from Providence city 24 hours ago. The city’s police force and local guard have quarantined the city. Some sort of virus outbreak is causing the local populace to go crazy and attack other people with cannibalistic hunger. But reports are conflicting and uncertain.

Your unit was attacked and your vehicle destroyed by something that wasn’t remotely human. Your last resort is to make it to the emergency extraction point and wait for the helicopter.

Everyone climbs out of the wrecked vehicle and gathers in the center square checking out their surroundings. Right before the wreck the team picked up a radio signal and were heading towards this area to search for survivors and any information about the infected.

The undead are quickly drawn to the scene by the sound of the wreck. Carl opens fire with a burst and drops two zombies.

Ian takes careful aim and drops two zombies while Natalie and Samson run towards the gun store. Samson fires at a group of zombies while Natalie checks the door. It turns out that the store is locked. A ravager zombie spots Samson and makes it’s way towards him. Also a lasher quicky moves across the roof of the gun store.

Natalie shoots the lock off the door and moves inside the store. She hears some shuffling and turns around to see some zombies moving out from behind the counter.

Dan fires his SAW and drops some more zombies. But it doesn’t seem to be stopping them all. Some are standing back up and the horde continues to advance from all sides.

There are just too many of them so Ian, Carl and Dan decide to hold up inside the apartment building. Luckily the building is unlocked. Dan braces up against the door and attempts to barricade it to keep the zombies from getting in.

After running into the building Ian looks around and realizes they are not alone. A single zombie shambles over to Ian and attacks. Outside the zombies are clawing at the doors and windows trying to get in. One zombie breaks a window and flops into the building. A ravager in the alley also decides to leap through a window. The lasher jumps down from the gun shop roof to move towards the apartment building.

(Not Shown) Natalie and Samson manage to fight and kill the two zombies. Samson goes upstairs to find a survivor hiding in the corner. A scientist that use to work for the Lazarus cryogenics corporation.

Ian gets attacked by both a zombie and ravager. He is injured and becomes infected. He struggles and manages to get free from combat to run up the stairs. Dan is still trying to brace the door but it is starting to splinter and too many zombies are climbing in through the windows. Plus both Ian and Carl have fled. But before Dan can run he is attacked, wounded and infected.

Dan frees himself from combat and flees up the stairs with Ian firing down at the horde climbing in. Carl’s nerves break and he open fire shooting randomly at the advancing zombies.

The zombies finally smash the door in and start advancing towards Carl. After firing wildly into the horde of zombies Carl decides to flee out the sliding glass door.

(Not Shown) Natalie is attacked by a ravager running in off of the street. Hearing Natalie’s struggle Samson comes down the stairs and together they kill the ravager. Samson decides it is time to call in the helicopter for extraction.

Carl flees the building and starts firing in through the apartment window at the zombies inside. But something comes around the corner. The Flayed One lets out a scream and starts coming for Carl.

Ian continues to on up the stairs to the third floor. Dan stays to take on a lone zombie in the room and takes the zombie out. Dan breaks through the center window and starts firing down at the zombies outside. But the lasher outside leaps up to the ledge and smashes in through another window to attack Dan. Plus some zombies from downstairs wander up to attack Dan as well. The infection and injuries are too much for Dan. He is backed into a corner and the undead pull him down to feast on him.

Ian hears Carl’s curses over the com and leans out an upstairs window to fire two shots into the head of the Flayed One. But the beast does not go down. Samason comes over the com and announces that they found a survior and have called in the helicopter for extraction. The team needs to regroup on the roof of the gun shop.

Ian starts running down the stairs past the zombies eating Dan’s corpse. But the Lasher spots Ian and moves quickly to after him. The Lasher catches Ian as his wound and infection are slowing him down. The Lasher jumps on Ian and pulls him down on the stairs and proceeds to rip Ian apart.

Samson looks out the window of the Gun shop and spots the Flayed One advancing on Carl. Samson unloads the rest of his clip into the Flayed One. The massive Creature stumbles and falls down. Without checking to see of it is dead, Carl runs across the street towards the gun shop.

Carl reaches the roof just in time as the helicopter arrives. The members of the team that are left and the survivor board the helicopter. Natalie administers first aid to Carl for his wounds as the helicopter takes off.
